THE CREATIVE RESIDENCY DETAIL:
The residency program focuses on creating a platform for artists of all art -forms who will work with Cook Islands Artists.
We seek artists who have a
connection to the heritage arts of the Cook Islands.   The  residency will in turn feed into the development of work for consideration of Arts festivals in NZ and the Cook Islands as well as other Pacific Nations and  International events.
The residency is about stability, security and productive outcomes for the community and artist  reinforcing collaboration and exchange of artistic knowledge and expression on a more intimate and learned level. As Cook  Islands creative producers the opportunity to create a retreat experience for artists to experience a different culture influences not only the artist but builds our skills and abilities to showcase Cook Islands pacific style and art.  We know how to support artists and make sure they are cared for and protected  to create the best experience and work.

THE NUTS AND BOLTS

The residency will occur in Rarotonga however when possible we will also fly the artist to Aitutaki for 3 days to work with Araura College and Pa Enua Artists.

  • Debrief with the local artists who took part in the workshops and recordings. and or filming·
  • Reviews of work.

The  residency opens opportunities for collaborative expression. It is core to the residency that the artist is afforded the opportunities to engage with cultural  perspectives and beliefs to access the values, customs, rituals, dance, song,
language and cultural expressions of the Cook Islands. If you are an interested artist and want to begin show an expression of interest please contact us.

Thanks to our supporters, sponsors and funders Motone's creative residency program has been designed  to create collaborative work between the selected artist and our community. The program utilises the skills of the selected artist to preserve and innovate a  Cook Islands Heritage art form. The program establishes a forum and framework that will see the continued recognition of our heritage art forms and applies adaption and contemporary frameworks re-igniting fresh new ways of looking and presenting and producing art. This first residency project is the trail to ensure we establish a long standing residency in the  Pacific. The residency provides the environment for an  individual to explore his/her artistic practice within the Cook Islands community; meeting new people and artists. The program uses traditionally known art forms and contemporary/new materials and or practice to combine the artist  and community experiences. Thus forming the final arts product of the residency.
