GREG SEMU PROJECT

IN 2014 Samoan Photographic Artist Greg Semu asked Motone to produce his photo shot for a work he was developing. This required full producing skills as the image to recreated needed a set, cast, contracts, etc  and strong financial skills and project management.
The work was completed and Greg Semu will be exhibiting that work in 2016 at the National Gallery of Victoria click here to see the final work

Taurua Carving Symposium 2015

TAURUA – A MATARIKI MĀORI ART EXHIBITION IN CELEBRATION OF THE COOK ISLANDS/NEW ZEALAND PARTNERSHIP

IN 2015 Motone worked with the NZHC to develop a concept that showed the bond between New Zeaalnd and the Cook Islands from that TAURUA was born and became the Matariki Māori Art Exhibition took place at Avarua Park, Rarotonga, on 15-20 June as part of events to celebration this year’s 50th anniversary of Cook Islands self-government in free association with New Zealand.  The event is being hosted by the New Zealand High Commission.‘Taurua – A Matariki Māori Art Exhibition’ saw Cook Islands and New Zealand carvers and weavers come together for a week-long programme of creative artistic display including workshops for the public in the township of Avarua.  The artwork produced formed a commemorative set of works to reflect and celebrate the relationship, emphasizing the strong cultural links between New Zealand and the Cook Islands. Carvers and weavers from the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute (NZMACI), based in Rotorua, flew to the Cook Islands to participate in the exhibition, thanks to the generous support of Air New Zealand. NZMACI operates Te Wānanga Whakairo Rākau o Aotearoa (the National Wood Carving School), Te Rito (the National Weaving School), Te Takapū o Rotowhio (the National Bone, Stone and Greenstone Carving School) and Te Wānanga-a-Kupe Mai Tawhiti (the National Canoe Construction School). The Institute is a recipient and guardian of a strong nationally focused cultural legacy, positioning it at the forefront of Māori cultural representation – locally, nationally and internationally. Four local carvers who represented the Cook Islands were the new wave of carvers who are extremely talented and innovative. All carvers and weavers showcased the traditional and contemporary art form of carving.

Air New Zealand was the gold sponsor with local companies coming on board to support this unique event, with Raro Expo providing site infrastructure, Baker Tree Services - supplying the Artists wood, Island Car and Bike Hire – van and car hire, Telecom Cook Islands – Communications, Prime Foods – with groceries for the group and accommodation from The Edgewater Resort and Spa for the duration of their stay with Motone Productions who are producing the event.

Included in the programme schools from around Rarotonga were invited to come to the site and learn and experience carving and weaving art being made enabling Cook Island tamariki to interact with the Artists.  During lunch time we also had live entertainment from noon to 1pm with local and international musicians. This has been made possible by the support of the Cook Islands 50th Anniversary celebrations.
