The work we do with schools and what we believe in.

Picture
Motone's goal is to tap into the young creative minds of the Cook Islands and share our expertise our talent and those skills of the professional artists, technicians, directors and writers that we bring to the islands with our children. We are surrounded by some incredible talent however we do not in the Cook Islands provide appropriate vehicles or options for arts development and growth. Sadly often people do not see arts as a career or even worthy of funding! That is dated thinking Motone is here to make a stand for the creative industtry of the Cook Islands even though at times it is frustrating.... we have a bright future. How can you not when you have a student from our workshop in 2011 come to the 2012 workshop with DIVAS and she has now written and recorded her own song and asked Ladi 6 to give her critic on her work. The song was great and now she is a student we are keeping our eyes on.

So how does Motone support arts development - we do this through a variety of ways and we are not affraid to ask for your sponsorship or help so if you want to be a part of this Contact us
Building bright futures in the arts is worth your support, sponsorship and funding. Join us in being leaders of a new future.

1. MOTONES SCHOOLS PROGRAMME
Every event we hold, a condition of  the artists is that they must conduct a workshop with our performing arts  students at Tereora College in rarotonga and Araura College thanks to Air Rarotonga's support to fly our artists over to Aitutaki.
We would love to extend this to the other schools  but currently receive no funding for this programme).  This has been a hugely successful programme thus far and seen students gain insights, confidence and  honest knowledge about not only the music industry but the creative arts.  We do not receive any support for this programme but do it because we believe the next generation are the future of the creative industry here in the Cook Islands and with the talent we are bringing over that contact will inspire.

2. MOTONE ARTS STUDENT DEVELOPMENT  GRANT or as we  refer to it -“the MOTONATOR GRANT”.
This  grant is for a school leaving student who has been accepted to a performing arts, music, theatre or sound and lighting engineering course” says  Glenda Tuaine Company director of Motone.“   Mo and I decided that instead of aligning our company with a charity each year  we would  create a grant that offered assistance to a future actor, musician, producer,  technician.”  Motone has supported the performing arts students at Tereora College for the past 4  years by  creating workshops for the students with our artists.  Opera stars Ben Makisi and  Bonaventure  Allan Moetaua conducted a one hour workshop with the students on vocal training and technique.  Opera in Paradise sopranos Mere Boynton and Deb  Kapohe also taught the calss on movement and voice warm up programmes.  Divas  in Paradise international hip hop sensation Ladi 6, R & B star Bella  Kalolo and original singer songwriter Julia Deans and local talents Tara Kauvai and Kura Happ in 2011 told candid stories on how they started in the music industry, how they write songs and showed their own personal ways in which they warm up and overcome nerves. Ladi 6 returned to the classroom in 2012  along with rising star Iva lamkum, award winning vocalist Kirsten te Rito and our local star Cre to again work with our students. Our  goal is to introduce to the students to different types of performance and  creativity that they may not be aware of.  Technicians are much sort after and vital part of any show so it is  really important that we begin to support any students that are interested in creating shows and helping them understand what is involved”Says Newport.  "We also assist with the end of year performing arts class performance a show well worth community support the current teacher Claire Waldron is doing an excellent job at developing our kids with performance”.

The way our grant will work is a student must apply to Motone with details of their intended study.  We will then assess the proposal and award a grant according to our criteria. Says Tuaine. We also welcome any other businesses who wish to partner with us in the grant. The more we can support creative industries the more we develop new career prospects for our
people.

To be  eligible the student must reside in the Cook Islands and be of Cook Islands ancestry.

We Proudly announce that the first recipient of the Motonator Grant is RIDGE PONINI who has followed his dream of becoming a world class Opera singer and now attends OTAGO university studying Opera
